Just nineteen minutes from your apartments in downtown Dallas is a premier destination known as the Irving Arts Center. Since opening in 1990, the center has become a hub of community celebration. It hosts around 1,400 performances every year and welcomes over 100,000 visitors. The center spans over 90,000 square feet and is the proud home of ten cultural arts organizations. Enjoy a performance by one of the following musical ensembles:
Irving Symphony Orchestra
Since 1961, the Irving Symphony Orchestra has strived to provide artistically satisfying musical programs for the DFW community. It began from humble beginnings and later performed in England with the Wimbledon Symphony Orchestra as part of a cultural exchange program. Conductor Hector Guzman is a renowned organist who has won the world’s most prestigious organ competitions. He’s also a celebrated guest conductor in Mexico and is known for his creative arrangements.
With a large repertoire, it’s no wonder the Irving Chorale draws a crowd. There are over 70 singers who perform everything from folk songs to Broadway classics. They come from diverse backgrounds and present a full season of subscription concerts. Accompanist, Eunice Tavaglione, has accompanied orchestras in Asia, Europe, and the United States. She came to Dallas in 1976 and earned a master’s in music from the University of North Texas.
Irving Symphonic Band
Called Irving’s musical treasure, the Irving Symphonic Band was born through the vision of the city’s park district. The desire to create music brings the musicians together on Thursday nights. Many have played their instrument since childhood, and they perform tunes for all seasons. The Irving Symphonic Band enjoys giving back, and some of the concerts benefit local nonprofit organizations.
